Know what the evidence can tell you.
A backtest, a model and an actual account record answer different questions. Good comparisons make those boundaries visible.
Five labels. Five different meanings.
| Evidence type | What you are looking at |

| Research | Descriptions, classifications or analysis. Not a trading result. |
| Backtest | Rules simulated on historical data, subject to assumptions and test design. |
| Model / reconstruction | A hypothetical combination or reconstruction, not an account’s realized result. |
| Demo | Forward trading in a simulated account. Execution can differ from funded trading. |
| Live | Trading in a funded account. Assess verification, deposits, leverage, costs and the period observed. |
A fair comparison needs more than a return line
For v3, the intended comparison is the combined portfolio, its components presented anonymously, and appropriate equity benchmarks on the same dates. It should disclose costs, reinvestment assumptions, exposure and how the portfolio was selected.
- Show returns alongside drawdown, recovery time and time in the market.
- Use total-return benchmarks where appropriate, and identify the exact index or investable proxy.
- Separate development data from out-of-sample or forward evaluation.
- Include adverse periods and explain sensitivity to costs and settings.
- Identify the portfolio version, weighting rules, test data and evaluation date.
Portfolio v3 is in development. Its performance comparison is not available here yet. We will not substitute another configuration’s results.
